Modelling Advice

Avoid modelling scams.

Modelling is not a cheap or free industry to be a part of. To think that you can enter the industry with no one knowing your name or work ethic and they will pay your way is ridiculous to even consider.

DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY TO AGENCIES UPFRONT TO JOIN AGENCIES OR CASTINGS……

Remember that an agency will never ask for money. Casting and test shoots should be free. Legitimate modelling agencies must have an office that they can easily visit! Beware of castings in hotels or hard to reach areas.

Major point. If you wish to have a company to represent you, contacting potential clients for you and ultimately gathering expenses because of you then what makes you think they should be required to work for free? When was the last time you revived your long distance phone bill? Now think about agents who are making such calls for 10 to 100 models. Some agents get models jobs and the models turn the jobs down, don’t show up for them or other wise don’t complete the assignment which means the agent is stuck with the expenses.
Bottom line. You are going to pay for promotional items to model. The question is. How much? And what for. Here is a helpful guide to understanding what is reasonable and what is not.

Are there any scams? Sure there are, Are there a lot of them? Yes unfortunately. Most people who cry scam can’t tell you what makes a scam and what doesn’t. If you pay for something and never receive it and the company had and has no intention on delivering it… then you got scammed. If you pay for something and you receive it whether you get the results from it you expected or not. You didn’t get scammed.

There are currently many high street make-over taking over the industry giving the profession a very lucrative and bad reputation, and it is extremely sad to know that they are a lot of innocent individuals who are victims of these money hungry con artists! You need to stay away from companies who pose as agencies, they rip you off. Photos are monotonous, no themes, poor lighting, dim and none focused images.

BE WEARY OF MODELLING SCHOOLS??

Modelling schools? Uh…go if you want, but they are of little value beyond their own walls and egos.
Dance classes or any class that involves movement can certainly benefit you and teach you how to move properly, and relax your body.

DO YOUR RESEARCH AND REVIEW ALL LEGAL DOCUMENTS

Please look around and do your research! The best test is to look at paper work the company may have that show you examples of models just like you (not famous names) who have entered the same programme or product participation and have got ton results. Check credits, check names, testimonials, and success stories.

Another rule of the thumb is if anyone ever tries to high pressure you into spending money, run fast. Modelling is a career effort whether part time or full time and no decisions should be made on tactics such as this.

There is no one way to know if a company is a scam or not. Checking internet reports and opinions are not the right way either. Anyone can publish articles and tell that one site or another is a scam. Again you will only learn from experience.

Again check other professional organizations for your background checks, if you see how a company can hep you, go for it if not don’t. It really isn’t that tough at all.
