Modelling Advice

Posture and walking.

Posture

Most of the models dream in being on the catwalk, but to make it there you not only have to be tall, slim and pretty you will also have to know hoe to walk an pose properly.
Good models have excellent posture and know how to walk in a way that shows the clothes off, whilst also retaining contact with the audience.

Walking
Runway modelling is all about how you move down the runway. The models are taught how to walk so that the clothes move the way the designer wants them to.
The first lesson is learn how to keep the grace and balance wearing high heels, and not that most of the times or the shoes are too big or too small for the model’s feet so you will have to deal with another barrier. Managing this whilst also maintaining the runway walk is something that top models learn through experience, and the tutelage of others.

Turning
Used mainly for runway and live shows, there are several turns that models will learn. A competent knowledge of these turns can also be useful for still photography work, because models know the effect that the turns have on the clothes, and have learned how to turn whilst still focusing on the audience behind them.

Posture
Most people don't realise how bad their posture is until it is pointed out to them. Tall people often have bad posture because they slump to avoid attention, and models who have fallen into this trap will need posture coaching to make sure that they stand, sit and move properly. People are still trained by learning to balance a book on their head, which has the effect of raising the head and chin, aligning to spine and making eye contact with the people around you. Correct posture is healthier for your spine, your back muscles and your internal organs and automatically increases self-confidence.

Modelling is all about presentation, and the way you stand and move says a lot about you. As a new model, your agency will probably be able to give you tips or recommend classes but it's worthwhile doing some research to see if you can improve your posture before you see the agency.
