Time for Prints (TFP).

Time for Prints is an exchange of services between a model and a photographer. At its simplest, the model needs cheap or free prints for their portfolio, and photographers need cheap or free models to try out new shots and add to their own portfolio collection.

As a model, TFP is a great way to become familiar with the camera and the process of modelling. If a photographer has advertised TFP time, he or she will have a specific project in mind, and they will either want the model to follow directions exactly, or will encourage a collaborative process where the model can contribute to the quality of the shoot. As the photographer is not working to a third party creative brief, the PFT shoot can take longer then a regular shoot - but this is largely dependent on how clear the photographer is about what they want to achieve.

Generally, you will get between 4 and 8 quality prints for your portfolio. These should be properly printed by your photographer and preferably be 10x8 or A4 size. The photographer may ask you to sign a release which prevents you from selling the photographs. You should have agreed the deal with the photographer before you agree to do the job. Aside from the prints, you will gain experience from working closely with the photographer and if he or she thinks you are talented, they may suggest you for paid work.
Before you agree to the TFP shoot, make sure you know exactly what's involved. Turn down anything you're not comfortable with and if you feel that the shoot is crossing the boundaries you have agreed with the photographer, then discuss it with them and if necessary, leave
